Red, White and Blue

Hi there, my team mates over at Get Inky! are feeling rather patriotic lately and are posting their versions of the current challenge: Red, White, and Blue.  Here is my twist on the project.

I made a Victorian style inspired lace and paper cone which holds candies and a sentiment for the recipient.  So it is like a gift and a card in one.

To make the cone I simply took a double sided sheet of scrapbook paper which I trimmed down to an 8 inch square.  I drew the top of a heart in the upper right hand corner to make the scallops.  I trimmed the paper and put double sided tape along the left side straight edge.  I shaped the paper into a cone and pressed down the opposite side to the taped side.  I used a Doily about 8 " also and cut out the ;ace outer ring.  By using a tacky glue on the inside of the cone and by slightly pleating the doily lace, i glued the lace to the inside top portion of the cone.  Using a stapler and staples I affixed the tri colour ribbon to the top to act as a handle.  with a piece of the doily centre I covered the base of the cone by gluing the white paper over the red paper.

The front panel was made with white cardstock and a Stampin' Up! Sizzix Big Label Die cut.  I had printed the Buzzing Bees Get Inky! by Blue Moon Creation digital on the card stock first.  Afterwards I used Scor-Tape and extra fine micro glitter by Elizabeth Designs Monochromatic in warm tones.  Finally, I coloured using some alcohol based markers.

I hope you enjoy.  Please visit the Get Inky! blog where I am on the Design Team and see other examples.

I am also entering this card/cone in the Red, White and Blue challenge at ABC Challenges, the Stamping Dragon., and Created With Love.

I would so appreciate if you left me some comment loving too here at the bottom of my post as well as the Get Inky! blog.  Don't forget you can follow me by checking in the Blog loving and follower tab on the left and right.

Thanks for stopping by.

Masculine Card for Techies.

Hi, today I am posting the card I made and that I will be giving to someone soon..... So keep it to yourselves.  I also made this as inspiration for the Get Inky! challenge going on right now over at  the Get Inky! Stamps blog.  After checking out how I made this card , head on over to the challenge blog and enter for a chance to win some fabulous prizes from Bluemoon Creation.

I am always challenged when it comes to making a masculine themed card, goodness knows I have tons to make with all the men in my life!  I made this one with the Get Inky!  Loading Greeting digital stamp image from Bluemoon Creation.  I used my Cricut machine and the Cricut Everyday cartridge,to die cut the laptop (which on the cartridge is actually supposed to be an ink pad!  But with a few tweaks here and there I turned it into a laptop.    I chose  to use greys and blue for that techie feel, and I was also inspired by the paper I found with the number sequence (older DCWV paper), how cool is that?  And since this is a masculine card I thought that the little  Tim  Holtz fasteners/ staples would be a nice touch.  I hope you like and are inspired to make some manly cards.

Scrappy pages

Hi, I am posting some samples of recent scrapbooking pages I made on which I used some distress stickles to add a little something.  Over at the All the Stickles Blog, where I am a Designer we have a Linky Party going on and the colour this week is :any Distress.  How fun?

The album I am putting together here is about the high lights of our family's life in 2011.  I am using the Reminisce power palette by Creative Memories, mostly.  I like  the look of the papers in this collection and how all the embellishments go so we'll together.  However, on some pages I like to add a few other products to enhance some details.  On the above page I added some Distress Stickles by Ranger. The small blue frame is the same blue cardstock by Colorbok used elsewhere which I cut with my Cricut and The Reminisce by Creative Memories cartridge.  I added Faded Jeans stickles to the top frame for added dimension.

I chose to use: Faded Jeans, Scattered Straw, and Rock Candy.  The Title sticker is from my collection, I beleive it is from Memory Makers.  The blue ribbon trim is upcycled from a gift I had received.  The blue card stock is Colorbok.  I used the Creative Memories Border maker and scallop cartridge for making the laced border.  I used the Rock Candy Stickles to bring out the little lights on the Chicago night sky.

I added the Scattered Straw Stickles to the golden coloured swirls on the lower paper.  I also fussy cutter around the top edge of the swirls.  I used some Faded Jeans Stickles as accents on the blue ribbon trim.

Here is another page from the same scrapbook where I used some more Distress stickles just to bling up the Dragonfly.

On the dragon fly I used some Distress Stickles: Broken China and Frayed Burlap.  In nature dragon flies do reflect some shiny colours but they are subdued, so I felt that the Distress Stickles were perfect for this look.

Next week I will be posting a tutorial on how to use more of the wonderful Distress Stickles in Mixed Media over at the All That Stickles blog, so come see!

In the mean time I encourage you to visit the All That Stickles blog and partake in the Linky Party, all projects need to have  ANY Distress Stickles.  I can't wait to see what you do.  Remember, we have some very nice sponsors with some nice prizes too.  Thanks for viewing.
