Mod Podge a Fabric Bowl and Banner

Make your own bowls and sturdy banners out of fabric with the help of Mod Podge®.  Today, I am sharing my project which I made as part of the Designer Crafts Connection (DCC) Blog Hop, where we are honoring Mod Podge's 50 Years!  We are all celebrating this product and the company for its long-standing presence in the Arts and Crafts industry. Visit the Plaid site or more information regarding their wide range of products here.   ****Enter to win prizes, For Us and Canada only****

Did you know that Mod Podge® works with Fabrics?   Well, now you do.  I was excited to receive these products from Plaid®. the Stiffy® product was new to me, but very exciting as I had never tried it before.  I am already familiar with most of Plaid's products, and I have loved using ALL their Mod Podge® formulas over the years.

To make a fabric bowl here is what you need:

Fabric (mine is from Nancy's Notions)
"Stiffy®" Fabric Stiffener from Plaid®
Thread (optional)
Sewing machine, or Serger/Overlock (optional)

                                                                       Link to video

1.  Select a piece of fabric, cut into a square, taking into consideration the size of the bowl you would like.

2. Cut the fabric into a circle.  There are many ways to do this.  I chose to use the Fiskars® Fabric Circle cutter tool (from Nancy's Notions®).  You can achieve similar results by using any plate or circle template, a pencil and scissors.

3,  I chose to make a rolled hem edge around the circle with myAmerican Home Serger (Nancy'sNotions®).  This is optional, and similar results can be achieved with the zig zag stitch on a regular sewing machine.  You may also just use pinking shears, or leave the edges as is.

4. Soak, or coat the fabric with the "Stiffy®".  Lay the circle over a form to allow it to harden into the shape desired.  Let dry over night.

To make the Banner here is what you need:
Pieces of denim
Pieces of print fabric
Pieces of a solid and contrasting colored fabric
Mod Podge® Decoupage Tracing Templates by Plaid®
Mod Podge® Matte by Plaid®
Mod Podge® Decoupage Brushes (Plaid®)
6 metal eyelets
Kitchen string

1. Place the scallop banner piece from the Mod Podge® Decoupage Tracing Templates.

2.  Place the letter Mod Podge® Decoupage Tracing Templates over the solid color fabric, and repeat.

3.  Measure rectangular pieces that will fit onto the denim pieces.

4.  Adhere the solid letters to the print pieces by brushing some Matte Mod Podge® to both fabrics, and stick together.

5.  Adhere the rectangles to each Denim Banner piece.

6.  Set two metal eyelets per banner.

7.  String the kitchen twine through the eyelets. Hang to decorate.

Glass Etching done Easily

Turn some ordinary jars into the cutest craft storage for your own supplies, just like I did. All you need is, a jar!  Ok, I also used some Etching Creme by Etchall®.  A completely new to me product and craft.  If I could learn how to use the product and create within half an hour, so can you!

Here is what I made for this month's Designer Crafts Connection Blog Hop:

To begin I followed the instructions that come with the Etchall® Creme, and I viewed the video on how to work with the product.  It is so easy!  I was so excited to say "I can etch glass now!"  I know, this girl gets excited over the smallest things. LOL.

So what is this Etchall®?  It is a product that you just use on a glass surface (as well as other surfaces) to actually etch a design, which gives you this sort of frosty look.  All you need is a hard non-porous surface (glass, mirror, tile, slate) that you want to alter.  A stencil made from a very sticky vinyl, and the Etchall® creme. Note there is a liquid version of Etchall® too meant for dipping.

To make my cute button jar I used a paper punch I own and a piece of the vinyl, and a piece of the transfer film from Etchall® to make my very own special stencil.

It is important to make sure that the glass surface is clean before beginning.  I used some rubbing alcohol and a clean lint free rag to prepare the glass. Then, I applied the vinyl stencil sticky side down on the jar, making sure that there were no bubbles.  To help with that there is a great little squeegee type of tool available from Etchall®.

After the stencil was applied, it was time to add a generous amount of the Etchall® creme.  The coolest thing about working with the product is that it is reusable!  So, your investment goes a long way.  After 15 minutes you just scrape the product back into the bottle.  Once the jar was rinsed under warm water, the stencil could be removed and discarded.  The results were surprisingly good for my second time playing with the Etchall®!

For many how to's and more creative ideas please check out all of the Designer's involved in the hop, and remember to check out Etchall® at the following places.

Thank you so much for viewing, please leave any comments, questions, suggestions below and I promise I will read them all!

Take care and stay crafty!

Amazing Casting Products Designer Blog Hop

**not a sponsored post

Be Amazed by what the Designers of the Designer Crafts Connection have scavenged to mold and transform! (http://designercraftsconnection.blogspot.ca)
Today, I am sharing my own adventures with Amazing Casting Products (www.moldputty.com).

I scavenged through my studio and found a lot of objects and bits of ephemera to make molds off and to alter.  I love the idea of making more of some of the special items I have collected over the years and always find too precious to use.  Now I can make multiples of these loved pieces in my Mixed Media Art.  Here is one of the projects I completed just in time for Halloween.

To begin I used Amazing Mold Putty to make molds of a selection of items I gathered from my studio.  Some of my favorite items I wanted to replicate include vintage buttons I have collected over the years, an angel ornament from years ago, an old brass drawer handle, old jewelry passed down to me, a light bulb, and the cutest little owl button I already had in my stash.
To make molds using Amazing Mold Putty is so easy and fun.  If you go this site you can view a video that explains so much better than I can:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEs...

In addition to collecting various precious objects to mold, I also collected some pieces of ephemera and even a funky little branch that I wanted to try using the Amazing Resin on. (www.moldputty.com)

In the tray in the photo above you can see the pieces, I coated with the Amazing Clear Cast Resin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdk...) And the objects I made with the Amazing Mold Putty AND the Amazing Resin.  Note that I even colored some of the resin with pigment powders to make the colored pieces, including the owl.

I gathered some craft supplies I already had in my stash to make the project shown at the beginning.

To adhere the papers to the wood plaque and also to adhere the resin pieces I used Gel Mat Medium.

Before any gluing was done I used a file to smooth any uneven edges.

I used small scissors to trim off bits of resin.  To make this guy/gal I added a pinch of iridescent blue pigment powder into the resin during the stirring stage.  I poured just a bit of resin into the mold, and I added two tiny beads for his eyes before I completely filled the mold with the resin.

Here is the project all glued down waiting for a tree to hold the branch. LOL!
To complete the piece I used some vellum with a sticky back, ink, stamps, and glitter to make the speech bubble.

Here are the supplies I used to make Hooty!

There will be a giveaway. Readers may enter to win by posting a comment on  this blog (below) and the DCC blog (here) then entering via the Rafflecopter widget. Winner will receive a Dessert Stand. US and Canada only.

Today I have a quick, easy, and gorgeous home decor/storage project to share with you.

It is a display and organizer for the many bottles we ladies have on our vanity's at home.  Well, at least I do.  I wanted a pretty way to display my various bottles of magic potions (LOL) in my Master bathroom, and I decided to use this Deflecto® product to get the job done.  The 3-Tier dessert stand by Deflecto® is meant to hold 24 cupcakes or 41 cake pops.  However, as the motto states:  "Create.  Display.  Enjoy."

I started by assembling the display unit as per the included instructions, which are easy to follow.  Putting the tiers together was easy, and the material feels durable and flexible.
Once the display assembled,  I proceeded to decorate each tier with some faux Pearls, and Clear /gems.  Easy Peasy!

I love how it turned out, and it looks fantastic on the counter in my bathroom!  Bonus:  if I ever want to use it as a cupcake display I still can as it is made easy to clean and durable clear plastic!

To view this product and get more information, please visit the Deflecto site here:  http://www.deflecto.com/craft/

Favourite New Product to "Die" for

Today the Designers from the DCC (Designer Crafts Connection)  are participating in a fun Blog Hop where we show and tell about our favourite new products.  Most months we are given sample products by various manufacturers and asked to make projects that showcase those products.  This month, we are switching things up a bit and are showing you what our personal new favourites are.

My new favourite product is the New Steel Cut dies from Spell Binders. They are Designed by Seth Apter, fellow CHA Designer and New York Artist.  These new dies are different from so many of the dies already on the market, as they allow you to make Mixed Media style embellishments for your making pleasure.

Here is a little something I made:

Being a Mixed Media Artist I am always on the look out for anything that catches my eye, that is a little bit different, even worn or vintage.  Now, with these dies I can make my very own worn looking pieces for  my mixed media making.

One of the fun things to do with die cuts is to stack and glue several of them to make substantial elements that weigh very little, and can be glued to a canvas or any substrate.

Here I show you how I cut some Drips out of chipboard that I glued together, and painted.

There is a whole collection of these wonderful Mixed Media style Dies available, I highly recommend them if you love to make mixed media.

Thank you for stopping by.

Using Smmothfoam™ Ruled Wreaths (given to me) has made Summer crafting so much easier.

The Smoothfoam™ Wreath has a ruled lines which are very helpful in helping the maker figure out where to place the material(s).

Here is a closer look.

For my Wreath, I chose to cover it with some fun Oly*Fun™ Fabrics from Fairfield.

With the help of my AdTech™ glue gun and some glue sticks, this is how I attached the fabric onto the wreath.
To cut the bikini out of the Oly*Fun™, I used my Cricut Explore Air (an electronic Die Cutting machine).
